The Spread:
The Meliá Cabo Real blends into 14 acres on a sandy cove known as the corridor between Cabo San Lucas (20 minutes away) and charming San Jose del Cabo (five minutes away). The all-inclusive resort makes vacation budgeting easy for families. Lodging, meals, most activities, and the kids’ program are included in the price. What sets this resort apart, however, is its location on the only beach in the corridor area, which is safe for swimming (although, even on this beach the water’s strong current makes it unsuitable for young children or beginner swimmers). The resort contains 305 rooms, four restaurants, tennis courts, a large “lagoon-style” pool, and one of Cabo’s championship golf courses borders the hotel property.

Why Families Love It:
Along with snorkeling and windsurfing, guests tackle the climbing wall and fly through the air on the zip line. Both the Mini Club, geared to ages five to 12, and Club 4, for children four months to four years, are complimentary. The clubs operate year-round from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Club 4 closes one day per week and the day varies. Mini Club participants play beach soccer or water polo in the pool, make masks or piñatas, or try the zip line. Teens and adults go surfing nearby, or the tour desk can arrange sport fishing trips out into world-famous Marlin Alley. A free shuttle transports guests to bustling Cabo San Lucas.

Special Events & Activities:
Visit between January and March and you’ll probably spot Baja’s most famous visitors—gray whales that journey 6,000 miles from the northern seas to spend winter in Baja. They can often be seen spouting just off shore, but going out in a boat to see them is a memorable experience. A more expensive option, but truly thrilling, is a fly-in trip to Magdalena Bay up the coast where families can see many whales and calves up close and personal. Tours can be arranged by the resort but aren’t included in the all-inclusive price.
